Artist’s Statement

Whilst in a bubble during lock-down, many of us had the time and space to go deeper within ourselves.

Inner Bubble’s circular forms embody the containment of isolation while the radiating lines illustrate movements of self-reflection leading to inner ease.

Ché Rogers lives in New Plymouth, Taranaki, New Zealand, which he was drawn to by the cheap real estate and good surf. Not long after arriving, Ché was invited by Taranaki Arts Festival Trust (TAFT) to submit a design pitch for WOMAD NZ; this resulted in 14 years as TAFT’s in-house graphic designer. While there Ché created the face for the Taranaki visual and performing arts scene. During these years, Ché continued painting, eventually leaving TAFT in 2018 to pursue art and music full time. Currently combining all of his practices and passions – music, photography and painting – Ché is involved in several creative projects. From making music videos to playing live electronic music at festivals around the country to producing light installations for the TSB Festival of Lights, Splore Festival and WOMAD, Ché is also part of a collective of artists who run Koru Galleries; he also exhibits in galleries nationwide.
